Boy Scouts of America
The Boy Scouts of America (BSA) is one of the nation’s largest and most prominent values-based youth development organizations. The BSA provides a program for young people that builds character, trains them in the responsibilities of participating citizenship, and develops personal fitness.
Be aware that in February 2025, Boy Scouts of America (the national organization) will rename itself to Scouting America. This better reflects the current program. The values and programs will not change.
For over a century, the BSA has helped build the future leaders of this country by combining educational activities and lifelong values with fun. The Boy Scouts of America believes — and, through over a century of experience, knows — that helping youth is a key to building a more conscientious, responsible, and productive society.
Cub Scout Pack 734
Pack 734’s Chartered Organization is Hope Community (formerly Cork Methodist Church), located at 4815 W. Sam Allen Road (1/8 mile west of Cork Rd.), and weekly Den Meetings are typically held on Monday evenings 6:30 PM,in the Church’s meeting rooms. Monthly Pack Meetings are typically held on Monday evenings in place of Den meetings.
Boys and girls can join any cub scout pack they choose; there are no boundary lines. Cub Scout Pack 734 generally draws members from the northeast area of Hillsborough County, including elementary schools Cork, Knights, and Bailey, and we also include youth from Walden Lake, Springhead, and another Hillsborough and Polk county schools, as well as charter school and home schooled children. You can see all the Scout units in an area at the www.beascout.org web site. Our pack is part of the Timucua District, which includes eastern and southern Hillsborough county, and has over 70 units and 2000 members. This is one of 10 districts that make up the Greater Tampa Bay Area Council (formed by a March 30, 2016 merger of Gulf Ridge Council and West Central Florida Council), which includes counties from Citrus to Pinellas to Hardee.
Girls in Cubs Scouts are a fairly new option, and not all units have resources to meet the BSA requirements. BSA requires units to have a registered female leader for each grade level with girls registered. Pack 734 does welcome girls.
Cub Scout Program
The BSA Cub Scout program includes kindergarten thru 5th grade boys and girls and their families. Generally, grade determines program level. Cub Scouts are divided by grade level into groups of boys and girls called dens. The Lion (for kindergarten age children) is a somewhat different program from the older grade programs. The Lion and Tiger (first grade) programs require an adult to participate with the scout in all activities.
BOBCAT: Basic Cub Scout information – Newly revised that each grade level earn the Bobcart adventure for that grade level as part of their rank requirement.
LIONS: Kindergarten child and adult: a somewhat different program for the older grades
TIGERS: 1st grade child and adult; a slightly different program from the older grades
WOLVES: Program for 2nd grade child
BEARS: Program for 3rd grade child
WEBELOS: Program for 4th grade children
AOL: Program for 5th grade children – prepares them for the Boy Scouting program
Boys and/or girls who are 11 years old or have completed 5th grade can join Boy Scouts. We have Troop 734 for boys and girls which meets on Monday evening, right after the Cub Scout meetings
