Pack PWD Car Building Workshop Saturday Jan 25

The pack will host a Pinewood Derby car building workshop on Saturday January 25, beginning about 4 PM, just before the Pack Campfire.  This will be at the Carter residence, 8605 W Knights Griffin Road, Plant City.  (You can turn in for campfire parking at 8601 W Knights-Griffin, just across from Who-Dat Road.)

Bring your PWD car kit, and we will have tools to shape it into a race car, or ????  We will be set up in an open carport, so dress appropriately. Scouts (and parents and siblings and others) who would like some assistance on building their Pinewood Derby car should bring his car and ideas. We will have extra cars for adults or sibling competition ($7), books with ideas, and saws, sanders, drills, and other equipment to assist in making the idea transform to reality. (We can use any available adult help; please bring any tools which may be of assistance.) Please be realistic in respect to the carpentry skills required to fashion a car. The Pack has several books available to borrow with design ideas and speed tips. Additional ideas are available in many books and internet sites, including: Derby Monkey, and Pack 950 . There are many sources of high speed components. We discourage the use of purchased items which would replace those found in the standard PWD kit. Although the races will have winners and non-winners, we do not want to make the races a highly competitive event with resulting disappointment to non-winners. Additional design items, such as a driver, windshield, engine, exhaust pipes, are encouraged. The car does not have to look like a race car.   We will not be painting the cars at the workshop.  The pack will follow the 2023 Timucua District Rules for the races.
There will be awards for the the fastest 3 cars for the Lion den, Tiger den, the Wolf den, the Bear den, the Webelos den, and AOL den, as well as a separate categories for adult and for sibling participants. Design competition and Races for the pack will be held at the Blue and Gold banquet on Saturday February 25.

For the first 3 winners for Tigers, combined Wolf & Bear, and combined Webelos groups of the pack competition, the Timucua District PWD  will have speed competition and design competition for categories including:
